Black Rainbow is a national volunteer Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBQTIA+SB social enterprise in the pursuit of positive health and wellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Asexual, Sistergirl and Brotherboys (LGBQTIA+SB).

Originally focusing on suicide prevention, the diversity of our leadership group has allowed us to expand our horizons.
As an unfunded entity, we operate on a hybrid model of donations, fee for service and profit from sales of our educational materials and services. Check out more on what we do and how to donate We are located in the outback capital, Darwin, Northern Territory.

Projects

PROJECTS

We have several outreach projects. They include microgrants to support social events and gatherings. Our connections and connectivity program, the Black Rainbow Futures Fund, and our annual glossary posters series, we pay Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTIQA+SB a license fee for using images of their work on the posters.

Research

RESEARCH

We have dedicated resources from our donations to measure the impacts of the
lockdowns during COVID. It will also be the first time any health & wellbeing data has been collected nationally. We have partnered with Macquarie University’s Indigenous Studies Department to undertake this research. In 2022 we will be announcing more research partnerships and work in this area.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT

Black Rainbow acknowledges the traditional people of the lands of this country. We recognise our continuing connection to the land and water. We pay our respects to our Ancestors and the Elders, past, present, and future. Their strength and guidance continually nurture us. We pay tribute to and honour the lives of all Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, trans*, intersex, sistergirl and brotherboy people that have paved the way before us.

We also like to make a special mention of the place young people have, not just in our future but also in the directions our future will take. Whether you are lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, trans*, intersex or not. You are our future, and here at Black Rainbow, we believe in you.
